As some of you know my birthday is coming up. If you didn’t know, shame on you… but now you know and can’t claim that you didn’t know. Now while I’m not exactly jumping for joy at the fact that another year has passed without me accomplishing some (well, most) of the things I wanted to this year, I have to admit that even at my advancing age, I love me a birthday.
I love the attention… the cards, the well wishes. It’s the only day that I get to be the center of attention. Normally, I don’t really like to be in that position, but on my birthday… bring it on.
My husband has always been the kind to make sure I have a relatively nice day. And while most of my Mother’s Days have pretty much sucked… my birthday tends to be pretty nice and peaceful. My kids make me breakfast in bed (and if you know my 10 yr old, that’s a pretty special breakfast), my husband gives me a wonderful gift, and if I’m lucky my Mom makes me a cake (although she hasn’t done that in the past few years, so a pound cake is what I want Mom… hint, hint, hint).
So on to the gifts. David really does have a knack for picking out pretty things. He usually gets me a piece of jewelry, or last year a watch that I wanted (and wear every day). This year, things were a little different. For Mother’s Day I actually requested a coffee maker. Yes, I said coffee maker. Why? Because my old coffee maker was pretty much useless and since I’m such an addict, I need to have a good cup of coffee every morning. Now I know the theory that husbands should NEVER buy appliances for their wives as a gift, but… I wanted the damn coffee maker. To me, nothing says “I love you honey” better than a Cuisinart Brew Central 14 cup Coffee Maker. (Not a plug since they didn’t give me a free one… we paid for it the old fashioned way… on credit.)
I love, love, love my coffee maker.
Now, on to my birthday gift. We were lying in bed yesterday morning, amidst the kids and the dog, and I said, “Honey, let’s go buy Wii Fit.” Now you know that we just got the kids (and us) a Wii for Chanukah… and the kids and hubby have been loving it. Me… not so much. Why? I want the Wii Fit. I put on a pound or two (ahem) in the past year and I’d really like to get rid of the unwanted visitors to my middle. And hubby replied to me, “Oh, I was going to get that for your birthday.”
Sigh! I know what you are thinking… how dare he consider any form of exercise product as a birthday gift. Normally, I would be horrifically offended by the thought that my loving husband would suggest that I need to trim up the flab, but… I want the damn Wii Fit! And to be quite honest, the thought that he would get it for me for my birthday is once again proving that my husband really does know me. I have jewelry, I have clothes, what I really want this year is to lose the extras that have been clinging to my body. Bye bye flab. Hello Wii Fit!
I just had my birthday. Already had the wii fit, so I got the watch 😉
Enjoy the Wii Fit and keep us posted on your progress!
Happy Birthday!
By the way? You freaking crack me up!
I don't even know where our Wii fit is. How sad is that?
