I’m in the middle of taking a course on writing blog content. Why, after all these years do I need to learn how to come up with content? Because content is what makes or breaks a blog. Even one as fantabulous as mine. No, it’s not a real word, get over it.
My problem is trying to focus on what kind of content is relevant to my blog. I pretty much cover every aspect of life: food, parenting, social issues, design, travel. If there is some topic I haven’t touched on yet… don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll get around to it. I can’t seem to focus on any one thing, which brings me to my problem –
Everything’s a blog post.
When I go to school to pick up my kids and I see a parent getting into a shouting match with the Principal… that’s a blog post.
When I read about a fellow blogger’s struggles with making a chocolate cake and I decide to try the recipe myself… that’s a blog post.
When my neighbors go and do strange and crazy things (like neighbors do)… that’s a blog post.
I can literally go through my boring, run-of-the-mill day and STILL manage to find something worth writing about. Why? Because life is like one very long and crazy blog post. Nobody’s life is truly boring. Each one of us has a little dirt on the bottoms of our feet that would probably make a pretty funny story as to how it got there. Every family has it’s quirks. Every parent does it differently. There are policies and practices that we all have opinions on. Let’s face it… we’re all a little screwed up.
One thing I have learned form my content class is that if you are stuck finding something to write about… you aren’t being honest with yourself. Between the kids, husband, extended family, pets, neighbors, soccer moms, coffee shop patrons, Walmart employees and bible salesmen… I’m pretty sure your life is filled with crazy. And writing about the crazy is what us bloggers do best.
So, your turn… what is the strangest, craziest, funniest thing that has happened to you this week?
I appreciate your random style, Ms. C.
I, too, ALMOST never seem to run out of blog fodder; merely out of time. My entire life is a Lifetime / SyFy / Bravo network series.
