50 Things I Learned in 50 Years

  1. Life is too short to put up with people who don’t bring joy to your life.
  2. You know your children best, don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.
  3. Ask for what you want. If you don’t, how will anyone know?
  4. You CAN have it all.
  5. Balance is pointless.
  6. Do the things that scare you most. They will be the most rewarding.
  7. It’s never too late to do something new.
  8. Don’t tell your big dreams to small-minded people.
  9. When they all tell you you can’t… prove that you can!
  10. Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever.
  11. It’s okay to go to bed angry at your spouse. Sometimes sleep makes things better.
  12. Never go to bed angry with your child. Always kiss them goodnight.
  13. Believe in miracles.
  14. Always trust your instincts.
  15. Eat the last brownie.
  16. Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.
  17. Books are magic. Read as much as you can.
  18. Start a book club… you just might meet life-long friends.
  19. Somebody always has it worse.
  20. It’s okay to say No. You don’t owe anybody an explanation.
  21. It’s okay to say Yes. You don’t owe anybody an explanation.
  22. If you wait until you have enough money or time, you’ll never do anything.
  23. Being alone is awesome… and is NOT the same thing as being lonely.
  24. Stress just means you are doing something you don’t want to do. Stop doing it.
  25. Worry is useless… it stresses you out. See #24.
  26. It’s okay to not finish something you started if it isn’t working out.
  27. There are more important things than a clean house.
  28. Bad things happen to good people.
  29. Good things happen to bad people.
  30. If you can get a massage… get a massage.
  31. Life is too short to read a bad book.. or watch a bad movie.
  32. If you are going to eat chocolate make sure it’s the really good kind.
  33. Brussels Sprouts are really good if you learn to make them right.
  34. Relatives and Family are two different words… sometimes friends are more family than your relatives.
  35. Pretty polished nails always make you feel better.
  36. Know your priorities and don’t waver from them.
  37. When faced with the choice to stay up late or go to bed early… always go to bed early.
  38. Life isn’t fair.
  39. Regret the things you didn’t try, not the things you did.
  40. Make sure your kids have happy memories of their childhood.
  41. Get a dog.
  42. There are very few “thank yous” in life… don’t expect them and you won’t be disappointed.
  43. You can’t please everyone… don’t bother trying.
  44. Always have a goal.
  45. Listen to music and dance with your kids.
  46. That extra 5 or 10 pounds… nobody cares but you.
  47. Hair grows back.
  48. People who unfriend someone because they have differing views are NOT tolerant people.
  49. Being busy isn’t always a good thing.
  50. 50 doesn’t feel much different than 49.
